Chess

When I was about seven years old, my grandfather taught me how to play chess. Since then I have a special interest in the game, even though I haven't played in any tournaments for a number of years now.

Instead, my two youngest children, Erik and Lisa, took interest in the game and I was training them for years. Erik came third in the state junior championships in New South Wales and second in the Sydney Junior Championships. I compiled his games in the books Growing Chess: The Championships and Growing Chess: The Tournaments, both available at Amazon.

After years of structuring their training and being forced to think quite deeply into what makes someone successful in chess, I put it all together in a chess book called Your Best Move - A Structured Approach to Move Selection in Chess, which has been published by Everyman Chess.

I am also a keen chess programmer, having developed a chess engine called Sissa, with an estimated ELO rating of about 1700. It is available in the Microsoft stores for Windows, so please try it out!
